An XL Bling Ring

A story of XL bling and a lot of learning!

10 days ago we had a customer request a special ring made for her, of course this is no problem for us and something that we really enjoy.  It is nice to make something special for a customer and to share their delight and joy when they collect the piece or when we ship it to them.

The customer that I am writing about was from Poland and wore some unusual and large pieces of jewellery and to make something to suit her was no problem. She told us what she would like, discussed the details with Doka and left us with her ring size and these words ‘if I like it I will buy it’.  We discussed a price with her at the start and gave her an approximate price as to be 100% accurate at this stage was a little hard, we did not know how much silver the piece would use or how many hours it would take to complete the ring.

Our Polish lady said she would come back in two days and see how the work was progressing.

Two days later she came back to see us and admired the work in progress and brought herself a beautiful filigree bracelet from our display.

Again we talked about the price of the ring and unfortunately communications broke down a little here, I insisted that the price we had originally quoted was very reasonable for the amount of work that had gone into the ring.  Where she said she did not understand why the bracelet she had just brought would be cheaper than the ring as the bracelet required a lot more work than the ring.  Although this was not the case as the bracelet was a less complex piece that took less hours to make, but she insisted the price for the ring was too high and she has not been back for her ring.

The XL bling ring is finished now and it is a stunning piece as you can see but I am sure it is not to everyone’s taste and I wonder how long it will sit in the store before someone else comes along that will like it?!
It’s a size 14 if you’re interested!

In hindsight we should have insisted on a deposit for the ring we had been commissioned to make.

What other advice can anyone offer to help with future situations like this?

Your input and suggestions are much appreciated.

How much is that Bracelet in the Window?

Our shop is tiny, we have a small display window outside that showcases a few of our unique Seba designed pieces of jewellery.  I often long for a great big window, both so that I can see out and so that passers by can look in and see that we create jewellery RIGHT HERE.  It is so nice to have the chance to share our passion for filigree with visitors to Korcula and we have met some really lovely people here at Seba Dizajn.  It is especially nice to see our young visitors enthralled as they watch jewellery being made – we have a few children wanting to stay long after Mum & Dad are ready to leave which is funny.

This morning we met a lovely group of Americans who were here on a chartered yacht trip, 20 friends sailing in Croatia for a week, understandably they were having a fantastic time.  It was so nice to start my day chatting with them, this bracelet in our window display was what drew them into our shop;

Silver Filigree Bracelet by Seba Dizajn

It was nice to be able to explain some of the filigree techniques used in making the bracelet and for them to be able to watch something being made was a special experience.

Coincidently when I opened my email after this group had left I found a message from a customer that was here in June asking about a price for this same bracelet!

Filigree from the Sea 3 – the finished product

How fabulous to have found such a creative & fantastic husband!

And now I am loving the chance to share his creations with you, we have started a new line of jewellery here at Seba Dizajn.  Simply called ‘Treasures’ this jewellery line was inspired by the sea and sea-side treasures that those of us who are so inclined tend to collect whilst wandering along the coast.

You can see in my previous posts the story of this piece – here is the story in photos; it started with this wee ceramic gem,

found on this Korcula beach (couldn’t resist including cute nephew and sister-in-law photo).

Mr Creative sketched a few ideas;

and added a few details….

The finished Treasure – a beautiful pendant and perfect holiday keepsake or memento of your special occasion or place.

Help us design our latest piece of Filigree jewellery.

We currently have at least three options of how the next piece of filigree from Seba Dizajn can be completed.

I wonder if Adolf has jewellers block?

I think he has jewellers overload, too many good ideas tumbling for space in his head, here are a couple design of options.

OPTIONS 1 & 2 (the left & right sides are different here)
OPTION 3

OPTION 1 – (left first photo)

Two additional pieces of turquoise to be used on each side of the necklace to complement turquoise centrepiece.

OPTION 2 – (right side first photo)

No additional pieces of turquoise used on either side of finished necklace.

OPTION 3

A piece of turquoise used on either side of the centrepiece –

(nb. All our filigree jewellery is made from Silver – the ‘gold’ effect in the photos is from the heat used to shape & weld the filigree pieces together, the completed necklace will be polished silver.)

We would love to hear your thoughts on these options – or feel free to suggest some alternative options.

If you would like to see how this necklace turns out please subscribe to our blog on the link at the upper right of this page.

Thanks for your input and support.

Have been feeling a bit like a naughty school girl this last week or so – todays incoming emails said 30 Day Blog Challenge Day 19 – and here I am on Day 10.  Woops! Hence the double blogging for today…

I wish to reassure you that every piece of jewellery here at Seba Dizajn is a unique piece, each piece is hand made and all of our jewellery is silver.
We can guarantee you a piece that will be unique to you – we can even make something just for you if you let us know what you would like.

We currently have one piece heading to New Zealand and I can’t wait to hear from our customer there.  I am so convinced that she will love what Adolf has created specially for her, while at the same time a little anxious to hear from her.  Also a little anxious that her hand made silver jewel will be lost in the worlds postal system, that would be a sad thing – we do have many photos, but you cannae wear them!
I don’t want to spoil the surprise for our Hutt Valley customer but you can see below one of the pieces involved in her unique creation – I will post photos of the completed work once it has safely arrived in NZ.

Once again, thanks for stopping by and please leave your feedback below –  it would be great to hear from you.
Something extra special for someone extra special
