How’s the weather?

hahaha, sunny all the time, loving it!

One of our facebook fans suggested that I write a blog about the weather, not sure if she was serious or not, but Rachel J this one’s for you!

After about 10 Scottish ‘summers’ I am so happy to be experiencing a summer!

I am living in my flip flops/jandals and loving that too.  I am trying to swim in the sea everyday, it’s only 50m away so should be an achievable challenge.  We are eating fresh fruit & lots of salads (not having a kitchen is doable in the summer months)

Beautiful clear water for the daily dip

Would have to say, the weather’s GREAT – if you’re not convinced come on over!  We would love to see you.

Cheers
Ruth

Just write…..

Can I really write a blog about Filigree? Who will read it? Who wants to know about us and our new business here in Korcula?  And what shall I write about today?  What is SEO – Search Engine Optimisation, got that bit but how to achieve it? Oh dear…

So I went back to one of Nikki Pilkington’s first steps in her great 30 Day Blog Challenge.  ‘Just Write’ it said, and get used to the idea of writing.  So here I am, ‘just writing’ – it’s a humid afternoon in Korcula.  Both Adolf and I have had an afternoon swim and are looking forward to a busy evening here at Seba Dizajn… at least we hope we will have a busy evening.

It’s been a big challenge getting our business open in time for the tourist season here in Croatia, and now it feels like we are still waiting for the season to start.  Our friends with businesses here say that the season is very quiet and all report their sales as down 30-40% which is not ideal.  As newbies Adolf and I can report that business is up 100% – we only opened our store on 1 June.

After work last night we took a walk by the sea (with a bottle of red wine) and mused over the future.  How will the rest of the season pan out?  Will we find a new location for next year?  Will we be able to start a business in New Zealand (where I am from) in the future? When will we have a home with a kitchen??

So many things to contemplate.  I have great faith in Seba Dizajn and our concept here, 100% unique and handcrafted silver jewellery, made here in our store, what’s not to like? Alongside of our slowly growing collection of stunning Seba jewels we have a small selection of other goods…. We have selected a few fine Croatian made products and have a small selection of Fair Trade products from Nepal.

And for those of you who are reading and not lucky enough to be in Korcula, YES, we do post worldwide.

Thanks again for your interest and support.

Hot stuff

Odd ball - can you spot the difference?

Korcula is HOT! The temperature has averaged 35 degrees this last week & we are loving it.  Most of all we are loving the second hand air conditioning unit we found for Seba Dizajn – am sure we would have melted by now if not for this welcome addition.

Today Adolf has been working on a brand new ball…. a little different this time, each ball/bead is unique but our latest addition is different again.

My Mums

It’s 10:00am in New Zealand and midnight here in Korcula and I’ve just had a big chat with my Mum (she’s in NZ).  I love that technology allows us to keep in touch so easily, we were chatting on skype.  Mum is a pen and paper correspondant, and I love that as well, I have a great pile of her letters collected from the years I’ve been living away.

I miss my Mum, she’s great.  I have four older brothers, three lovely sister-in-laws and a bunch of great nieces and nephews.  None of whom I get to see often enough.  I’ve been living on the opposite side of the world to my family for 12 years now and missed a lot of family birthdays and other events.

Now I have a new family and a second mother, she’s great too.  Mrs Seba senior and I get along really well, I’m not sure how much of this is due to my serious lack of ability to speak any Albanish or Croatian?!! Smiles, hugs and nods go a long way, but not far enough.  There are so many things I wish I could say and share with her.

(Number 1 being how great her son is!)

The tourist season here in Korcula is a very short one and I plan to use the winter months to learn some more Croatian. Will keep you posted on my progess… so far my progress is Polako – slow.  I look forward to learning some language and cooking skills with my mother in law – I have managed to learn quite a lot of food words! Important things first.

However, it’s late and I am catching the 6am ferry to Split in the to meet a dear friend from Scotland who is visiting us and the sun.

I hope I learn to liven the blogs up soon!

Please let me know if there is anything you would like me to share or write about.

Best wishes

Ruth

ACTION

ACTION and a CHALLENGE, liking the two in one approach.

I am very new at all this web business, SEO, etc and on a steep learning curve and loving it.  Our business is new and physical footfall is small, with more time than I would like on my hands I decided to create a facebook business page.  This page has become a great opportunity to share what Adolf & I have been doing with our friends and family who are not here in Korcula.

When we arrived back in Croatia 4 months ago our shop was a bar, negotiations on rent and other paper work ensured and here we are SEBA Dizajn.

Our aim in opening this business was to have a space where Adolf can work and show anyone that is interested the work that is involved in creating filigree jewellery.  We wish to share our passion for this fine art and keep the filigree tradition alive.  Today there are very few people with the skills, training, expertise or patience that we are able to share.

The SEBA family have been working as jewellers for over 500 years, there are many stories that I hope to share with you about the history and traditions of filigree.

Please follow the link below & hit the LIKE button to learn more about us and the SEBA DIZAJN story.
